When you step up to join your Platoon Leadership Team, you’re not just signing up—you’re enlisting in the Service Leadership Corps, a force of veteran volunteers igniting service platoons nationwide.

Your service didn’t end when you took off the uniform. Our communities need you now more than ever. The leadership and experiences you gained in the military are crucial in this new mission: leading in your communities, building new skills and camaraderie, and strengthening local organizations.

By stepping into leadership roles within your Platoon, you’re not just answering a call—you’re becoming a beacon of hope. Your community needs your strength, your resilience, and your dedication. The Service Leadership Corps is counting on you to lead the charge, to stand as a pillar of support for your fellow veterans and your local community.

The time to act is now. Your mission continues. We need veterans like you to serve again—let’s make a difference, together.

*Veterans who apply before July 26 and are selected will receive an invitation to our in-person Field Training October 24-27 in Chicago, IL.

JOIN THE PLATOON LEADERSHIP TEAM

What is a Service Platoon?

The Mission Continues’ Service Platoons are led by teams of veteran volunteers that mobilize together to solve a specific challenge in their community. Service Platoons collaborate with local nonprofits, civic organizations, and businesses to ensure community support and engagement.

There are two roles you can apply for to become part of your local Platoon Leadership Team:

Platoon Leaders: The Platoon Leader is responsible for leading a small team of service-minded veterans to support the local community. With support from The Mission Continues (TMC) staff, the Platoon Leader ensures continuity of volunteer engagement through planning and executing regular service, support, and social events.

Platoon Leadership Team Members: The Platoon Leadership Team Member role is essential for ensuring platoon events run smoothly and we can connect with the local community in a fun, engaging way. Platoon Leadership Team Members are led by their Platoon Leader and may take on various roles to support the platoon success. Ultimately, each local platoon is responsible for defining specific roles and responsibilities for leadership team members.

Eligibility:

  • Be a veteran
  • Have attended at least one TMC project with your local platoon
  • *Strongly preferred to have served as a Platoon Leadership Team Member if applying for Platoon Leader

*Eligibility will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis depending on the opportunities available to serve with the platoon
